Notes from a Stay at Home Dad… tips, tricks, stories and fun
Wyatt’s One
Wyatt's one!  Now that he is all grown up... its easy to see just how different boys and girls really are.  All boy, this one.  Wants to wrestle and play fight all the time.  He loves to torture  his big sister, and she likes to try to push him around... too bad he almost weighs as much as she does, and takes her down like a WWF superstar.  His favorite thing to do now is play chase, and des...
Nine months and walking… again!
Again... I thought  I was going to have a little more time before the little guy started walking.  Nope, just like his big sis... he picked up walking early.  Just over nine months... and he is staring to walk around, determined to master the two legged art of the giants.  And I am sure that in a week or two, running will come, along with a whole new set of injuries and adventures.  But for n...
Baby Proofing the House
It's been a few years since i last baby proofed the house, and now it seems, its time for it again.  It never fails, that the one thing that your forget to make safe, is the one thing that they will hurt them self or go for, over and over again.  Here is my list of necessary things to be baby proofed, again. Covers on all the outlets - babies like to stick things there all the time, toys, f...
Nine Months
The boy is nine months old now, and I can tell... he'll be walking soon.  He is learning some good tricks from his big sis, like how to climb up on things by stacking things up to get higher.  Soon he will learn that the higher you get... the harder you will fall.  We have had a few good falls, no blood... but still good falls.  I can tell that this boy is going to be tough... little t...
Poop Galore!!!
We recently made the switch to solid foods.  Well, not really solid... mush.  I am really starting to miss the days of a strict boob milk diet.  Not too many poops and the smell was bearable.  Now, with the addition of formula and baby food, the poo flood gates have opened and I have found myself in a non stop diaper changing haze.  I mean it's nuts man.  It doesn't stop.  Back to back to b...

Baby Proofing the House

It’s been a few years since i last baby proofed the house, and now it seems, its time for it again.  It never fails, that the one thing that your forget to make safe, is the one thing that they will hurt them self or go for, over and over again.  Here is my list of necessary things to be baby proofed, again.

Covers on all the outlets – babies like to stick things there all the time, toys, fingers, sometimes they try to eat it

Latches on any drawers and cabinets with dangerous, or stuff in there that you don’t want the kids to get into

R ubber or plastic edges on sharp corners- a light bump on a sharp corner is an instant black eye or lump

Secure Unstable things to walls, so they don’t fall on the baby when they pull or climb on them, like- bookshelves, standing lamps, mirrors etc

Gates on the stairs- because a baby falling down the stairs in not good for anyone

For me, the hardest thing that you have to do to keep the baby safe, is keeping all of the tiny little things off the floor.  Especially when you have a toddler that plays with barbies and all their little stuff…

No F&*%kin Zipper Pajamas…Any Where?

Posted By: newdadscliffnotes.com on January 29, 2010 in Stuff Dads Must Have, Uncategorized - Comments: 11 Comments »

41wE0t4MmHL._AA280_This is something that really bothers me for some stupid reason.  Why is it nearly impossible to find newborn and infant pajamas with zippers.  What is the deal?  Zippers are way easier, faster, and look better.  So why would they do this to us.  I was at Kohl’s today, and the Carters rep, just happened to be there.   The conversion went like this…

Carter’s Lady:  Can I help you find something?

Me:  Yeah, I need to find some newborn or 0-3mth pajamas with zippers

Carter’s Lady:  We have some really nice ones with buttons

Me:  I don’t want buttons,  I hate buttons, I want zippers

Carter’s Lady:  Well, we don’t have any of those, in-fact we have phased zippers out of infant ware, and are not even making them anymore

Me:  That’s the stupidest thing I have ever herd, are you kidding me?  Why would you do that?

Carter’s Lady:  Well, we have had some negative feedback about them. Some people are zipping up their kids skin

Me:   Those people are stupid.  With a zipper you just zip once… with buttons you have at least a dozen chances to pinch their skin in the button snaps

Carter’s Lady:  And people also….

Me:  People are stupid, zippers are faster, eaiser, and look better.

Carter’s Lady:  I will let someone know

Me:  You do that.

So… I’m an asshole.  But is it too much to ask to have at least the option of having a zipper.  I spent all day looking for these endangered species of sleepwear, and only found two, really ugly ones.  So I stocked up and bought a few of each in different sizes.

I’m now deciding to put together a store that has nothing but pajamas with zippers.

What to Bring to the Hospital

Posted By: newdadscliffnotes.com on January 14, 2010 in Stuff Dads Must Have, Uncategorized - Comments: 1 Comment »

Mans Labor BagWhen she says that its time to go… you need to be ready.  Have the bags packed in advance if possible

Here is a list of things that you should bring.  Now, this is the list of stuff for you to bring… most women will have a suitcase full of stuff that they want to have, just make sure that your lady packs her bag well in advance.

This is a list of the stuff that I packed in my hospital bag

  • Change of clothes- if the labor takes a long time or there are any complications, you might be there for a while.  Also bring something comfortable to sleep in
  • Toothbrush and toothpaste for everybody
  • Some games to keep you busy in down time- I brought cribbage, travel scrabble and some cards
  • Books or Magazines
  • iPod and speakers- my wife really liked having music during labor
  • DVD’s and Player
  • Snacks- Power Bars and trail mix, and gum for nasty breath
  • Aspirin or something for headaches
  • MOST IMPORTANT!!!- Cameras, film, batteries, if you forget this… your dead!

Also remember to make sure that your lady has all her stuff packed and ready, and be sure to have some stuff for the new baby as well.  Like their fist little outfits, pacifiers, receiving blankets etc.

  • When your at the hospital, remember to loot the place.  Take everything that you can get your hands on… you are paying for it!
  • Don’t forget to have the Car Seat installed properly before you get to the hospital- they wont even let you take the baby home if its not installed right.
